MUSIC PROGRAMS & ENSEMBLES
Our music programs are starting and ensembles are forming for all our students! For special information about joining 6th Grade Orchestra, 6th Grade Chorus, 6th Grade Band, and Jazz Band, please see our eNotice of August 30. We are especially proud that our school district has been recognized for its outstanding music education programs by The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation.
EXTRA CURRICULAR PROGRAMS
A number of extra curricular programs will start in the coming days. The benefits of students participating in extra curricular activities include opportunities to extend learning, apply knowledge, higher grades, better connections to school, and aspirations to higher levels of education. Because of these benefits, we are committed to providing a well-rounded extra curricular program for students. Art Club for 7th and 8th-grade students (Session 1) will begin on Wednesday, September 27. Registration on RevTrak begins Monday, September 11 at 8:00 a.m., and it closes either onTuesday, September 26 or when the capacity of 24 students is reached. Debate Club will be starting again on September 20! Our club meets from 3:45 to 4:55 p.m. every other Wednesday and will focus on public speaking and current events. Debate Club is open to all DW students. Stevenson Debate Team members will come and lead our meetings. Talk to Mrs. Nasenbeny if you have any additional questions, and keep an eye out for posters with room numbers. We look forward to seeing you there! Jazz Band auditions will be held next Monday, September 18th after school in the Band Room. Please see Mr. Owens for audition materials.
Knitting (Introduction) for 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students will start on September 26. Registration on RevTrak begins Monday, September 11 at 8:00 a.m., and it closes either on Tuesday, September 26 or when the capacity of 20 students is reached. The DW student newspaper, DW Voice, will have our first meeting on Wednesday, September 13 after school in Room 203. EVERYONE is welcome to join! Please see Ms. Bosley with any questions. Find more details on the Newspaper Extra Curricular Webpage.
Robotics Club applications for interested 6th-grade students are due to Mrs. Cheifetz or Mrs. Frantom by Wednesday, September 13. The club provides an opportunity for 6th graders to develop their spatial and programming skills in a non-competitive environment. Students will work with a partner of their choice to build and program Lego Mindstorms robots. Each session can include 24 students, and the first meeting is on Wednesday, September 20. Academic Science Bowl requires students to participate in a fast paced jeopardy style match. An informational meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 12 at 3:40 p.m. in Room 206. If you are interested in learning about or trying out for Science Olympiad, there will be a mandatory informational meeting on Monday, September 11 in the Cafeteria. The meeting should be about 20 minutes. Please make arrangements to be picked up at 4:00 p.m.Supervision is not available after 4:00 p.m., and students can only be in the building under the supervision of a staff member. Show Choir auditions will take place after school next Wednesday, September 13, in Mr. Clarin's room. Students should prepare 30-45 seconds of a song of their choice, and be ready to learn some choreography to perform in small groups. Student Council is an extra curricular activity open to all Daniel Wright students. Student leadership development is the process of involving students in meaningful ways both in and beyond the classroom. It is providing opportunities for students to demonstrate their talents, skills, and interests while continuing to develop leadership skills. Our first meeting is onMonday, September 18 after school, and interested students should complete the application form by that date. If your 7th/8th-grade student is interested in helping other students and making Daniel Wright a more positive place, then can join Wright Way Club! Wright Way Club is a peer leadership club, and the first meeting will be Monday, September 11 in Room 129, the performing arts room.
