Chess
Purpose of the Activity
To provide an opportunity for students to socialize, learn the game of chess and compete against others. Students play other Daniel Wright students and if they qualify they can play in IESA State Tournament in February. Student should bring a chess board if they have one to share.
Tryout Procedures
There are no try outs for chess club, all students are welcome to participate. For the state chess finals, the USCF ratings will be used to determine who attends the competition. Make sure you have a permission to participate form on file with the club sponsor or coach otherwise you will not be able to participate in the program.
Number of Participants
The chess team is limited to 30 students.
Grade Level/s of Participants
The chess team is open to sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders.
Meeting Schedule and Location
- Season: Winter
- Meeting Day: Tuesday
- Practices: 3:45 p.m.
- Location: Daniel Wright classroom
- IESA State Chess Tournament in February for those who qualify
Student Attendance Guidelines
Students should attend the weekly meetings.
