Purpose of the Activity

The purpose of this organization is to develop leaders who have a desire to serve and improve their community.

Tryout Procedures

After third quarter of seventh-grade, all interested students have the opportunity to apply using the student application form and essay evaluation rubric.

Students must complete three hours of service outside of school sometime during their seventh-grade year to be eligible for membership.

Faculty Evaluation Form: Faculty will use information and scores from learning characteristics and SEL rubrics to score students. Students who earn a rarely or occasionally in any category of either rubric may not be eligible unless they were able to demonstrate growth and improvement throughout their seventh-grade year.

Number of Participants

There is no limit on the number of students who may participate.

Grade Level/s of Participants

Leaders in Learning is open to eighth-graders. However, the process begins in seventh-grade.

Meeting Schedule and Location

  • Season: Year-round
  • Meeting Day: Wednesdays
  • Time: 3:45 to 4:45 p.m.
  • Location: Band Room

Specific Rules or Guidelines

Leaders in Learning is an additional responsibility with requirements including:
  • Continuous demonstration of The Wright Way
  • 10 community service hours
  • Small committee work
  • Attendance/participation in monthly meetings
  • Planning/participation in school and community projects
  • Classroom mentor for SEL Advisory lessons
