Safety of our students is our number one priority. Safety begins with the driver. Drivers are required to inspect their school bus every morning. Click HERE to see the form our drivers use every morning when inspecting their school bus. Our Fleet Manager assists the drivers by inspecting items under the hood such as oil, coolant, belts, hoses, etc.
VISUAL BRAKE INSPECTION
The Illinois Department of Transportation requires that a visual brake inspection be performed on every school bus operated in Illinois at least once a year or every 10,000 miles, whichever occurs first. A completed School Bus Brake Inspection Report must be presented to the Certified Safety Tester each time a school bus is taken to an Official Testing Station for a safety inspection. Click HERE to see a copy of what the report looks like.
SCHOOL BUS INSPECTIONS
The Illinois Department of Transportation is responsible for regulating and overseeing both scheduled and non-scheduled school bus inspections. Scheduled inspections are conducted at approximately 250 official testing stations across Illinois. In addition to these scheduled inspections, over 5,500 non-scheduled inspections are conducted by IDOT Vehicle Inspectors annually. Non-scheduled or "unannounced" inspections are performed wherever a school bus may be stored or parked.
Bus inspection forms are on file with the Office of Transportation Services located at: 1370 N. Riverwoods Road behind Daniel Wright Junior High School. If you wish to view a copy of a bus inspection, you may do so by stopping by anytime between 6:30 AM and 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday during the normal school year.
