Creative Arts Spotlight

As part of their middle school curriculum, students rotate through creative arts courses. Students take six creative arts classes—music, STEM, family and consumer science, art, digital art, and performing arts. They experience three of these in 6th grade and the remaining three in 7th grade, while band, orchestra, and chorus are full-year electives.

These classes give students space to explore interests, try new skills, and discover what inspires them. Whether designing in STEM, creating digital art, cooking in family and consumer science, or performing on stage, students learn to solve problems, work together, and express themselves. They also build confidence and resilience as they take creative risks and learn from the process.

The creative arts help students understand themselves and others, strengthening empathy and communication. These experiences support the district’s mission to empower students to grow as capable, adaptable learners ready for an interconnected world.

"By engaging in a rich variety of creative arts courses, middle schoolers not only develop artistic skills but also strengthen the critical thinking, empathy, and adaptability they will need for high school, future careers, and life beyond the classroom," said Music Teacher Matthew Clark.
